Easter Weekend

  This is such a beautiful time of year.  It is starting to get warm again and all around you can see the  rebirth of nature.  It has also a wonderful time to be with family.  My sister Sarah drove down from Washington to spend Easter weekend with us.  She had heard me tell of how wonderful the parties are at Matt's cousin Marnie's so she came to see for her self.  We have also tried to work on creating and rehashing traditions with the girls since they are starting to get old enough to start doing fun stuff.  
   Saturday we walked over to the Riverton Park with Emme to attend their Easter Hunt.  The wind was blowing so it made it chilly.  Emme loved the Easter Bunny they had there she gave him hugs and even a good bye kiss.  I was afraid she would freak like she did with Santa.  She was really good waiting till it was time.  She grabbed all the foam masks they had laying out.  And got a stuffed bunny for each girl.  Then we went to get Livi from Grandma's.  Who gave them new pjs and stuffed bunnies for Easter.  Emme was happy when we got home to show off her new toys to Auntie Sarah. And got even more stuffies from Grandma Olsen.  We made cakes and deviled eggs to take with us to Marnie's.
    Easter morning Emme couldn't wait to get into her basket.  She wanted her toys and her sister's too.  They both enjoyed what the Easter bunny left.  We always attend the family brunch and Easter egg hunt at Marnie's  There is always so much good food, and we get to see the family.  Emme loves spending time with Aspen. She was more interested in being on the trampoline then the hunt.  Poor Livi is teething again and just wanted to be held.  We had so much fun visiting and eating.  It is funny how complete strangers can become your family.  Matt's family is mine and mine is his.  And I don't think we would have it any other way.

Wheeler Farm

Yesterday we decided to take advantage of the beautiful day.  We were taping conference and decided we would watch it later.  (If one really can watch conference with two noise kids. ) So we loaded up the kids and some bread for the ducks and headed off to see the animals.

Emme insisted on saying hi and bye to every animal.  She even wanted to give them hugs, but since they were in pens she couldn't.  Livi of course just liked watching people while sucking on her fingers and playing with her socks.  If we had let her on the ground she would have eaten anything she could pick up.  

A day in the park

Matt's new work schedule, let's us have more time as a family.  So we try to find things do together each week  and try to squeeze in some time a date too.  This week we took the girls swimming at the South Jordan rec center. They both love it.  Though Emme has more energy then poor Livi and was upset when we needed to leave because Livi was exhausted. Plus it was time for dinner. 

    Matt and me went out to lunch and then went to the movie John Carter.  It was a bit slow moving at times but it was OK.  More of a redbox film. We had dinner with Matt's parents after Matt helped them put together their new dog run. 

    I took the girls to the story time at the library and found a kid with more energy then Emme has.  I know it's a miracle but Zac Bennion is far more energetic then Emme is.

     Today we decided with all the running around we should do something more low key.  So we decided if it was a nice day to take them to the park and then hang at home.   Since we have three parks in walking distance, we walked over to the big park.  Emme loved the slides.  She is too short to get up to some of them and needed Daddy help.  Livi loved the swings and that I brought graham crackers with me.  Several people commented how cute she was while she was giggling on the swing.  They both had so much fun and were exhausted that they went right down for their naps.  I can't wait for the summer to be here so we can make the park a daily thing.

The Great Potty Experiment

Yesterday I woke up and decided that I should try to potty train Emme.  This is probably the one thing about parenting that I am really dreading.  Probably cause I really have no experience at it and everyone has different ideas about how best to go about it.   When I became a parent I thought I was pretty well prepared.  I have a lot of nieces and nephews who I have babysat over the years (well except Monica who is six years younger than me and Mamie who I haven't met yet) I knew how to change diapers, give baths, feed etc.  But I never had to deal with potty training.  
    So after breakfast we went downstairs to try to teach her to go in the potty.  Can we say fail.  Don't get me wrong, Emme has zero fear of the toilet.  None she loves it.  She likes to sit on it, wipe and flush the toilet.  She knows to pull her stool up and put her potty seat on it.  She knows to wash her hands afterwards.  She even knows how to sit on it with out a potty seat.  She just doesn't go.  She doesn't seem to understand her body telling it is time to go.  We had two accidents where she wet her clothes right after we had been in the bathroom.  And then of course during nap time she pee so much that it went through her diaper.  I swear she was saving it up for her nap.  
   I had asked early in the day for some advice on it.  And I really like the advice from a friend from high school. She did it in the summer so they could run around outside and realize what was going on.  I like this idea since it doesn't involving peeing on the carpet.  (That is why our dog lives outside)  Plus it will give time for Emme's vocab to increase.  I still only understand seventy five percent of what she says.   But until then I think will continue to encourage her to use the toilet and talk about it.  My goal is just to get it done before she turns three.

Princess Emme

Emme is obcessed with Princesses.  This has led to a interesting outfits.  Also her trying to dress her sister up too.  Livi doesn't seem to enjoy the princess phase and quickly pulls what ever off of herself.  For Emme's birthday we got her a dress up trunk, something they both can use as they get older.  Right now Emme uses it every day all day.  Right now she is in a tutu and tiara.  It is fun having two little girls.  Where is Livi in all this scooting around the floor and putting everything in her mouth, while working on two teeth.

Her first bike of sorts

 Does it count as a bike if it has no petals?  I am not sure where Matt got the idea, the other day he told me about this bike.  It has no petals and it is made for toddlers.  They use their feet to move them forward. It is suppose to teach them balance so when they get old enough for a real bike they just need to learn to pedal.  Emme loves it.  She even cried when it was time to come it for dinner.

Toddler Time

I am really bad at remembering about Toddler Time at our library.  By the time I remember it is a couple hours passed or I don't have a car and it is too cold to walk.  This week I remember and I had a car.  (Matt was sleeping cause he had to work that night)  It is really cute. The sing songs and read stories.  Then the kids get some activity time, coloring, puppets, and musical instruments.   Emme loved it.  She jumped and played right along. The librarian was handing out stickers for Valentine's Day.  One for each kid.  Emme wanted two one for each cheek.  She followed the woman around till she gave her another one.   Poor Livi was just like why are we here.  So I gave her a fish to chew on.  A little girl came up and took it.  It was Livi's I brought it from home.  Poor girl she is so used to toys being taken away she didn't even blink.  It was fun for Emme so I guess I will have to remember for next week.
